What is a mother-tongue translator?

A mother-tongue translator is a translator who translates text from a language into their mother tongue or native language.

They would also be fluent and qualified in the language(s) they translate into their mother-tongue language.

For example a French mother-tongue translator would be French-educated and brought up in a French-speaking country. If they translated from Spanish into French, they would also be fluent in Spanish and have suitable qualifications in Spanish such as a degree in Spanish translation from a French university.
